Projects Information

Efficient and Clean Stoves:

The project is a combination of Environmental and Mechanical Engineering. Each discipline will compare two stoves which are Jiko and 3-Stone in terms of fuel and the stoves themselves.

The Mechanical Engineering part of the project is to test each stove's efficiency, by making the water boiling test in each stove and determine the most efficient. The Environmental part is to examine the Particulate Matter (PM) emissions of each stove and determine the cleanest.

The efficiency test consist of the water boiling test, where the team used water in a pot on top of both stoves using two different fuels (Maple Wood and Maple Wood Charcoal), and taking temperatures of the water every 3 minutes to show how long it takes for water to boil in different conditions and elevations. The emissions test consist of setting up the Met One Inustrument Model 212, which is a Pacrticle Counter device (PC), in order to count the different sizes particles emitted.
